'You should really consider if you want to work here.' Okay, I will.
  • 02
Back story: So I had a stint at M Is a few years back, first job, ended up being there for 3 years. I became the most respected crew member, and was paid better than half the managers.
  • 03
About 2 days before I ended up quitting my General Manager had the entire crew doing customer satisfaction surveys to boost the stores ratings for the owners and corporate. I
  • 04
felt it was wrong and decided 'Hey, I'll just leave a neutral review' not hurt the store, but don't lie about things. About 2 hours later the GM calls me...
  • 05
General Manager: Hey "Jimbo" can you tell me why the you left this review? "Jimbo": I felt it was wrong to lie just to boost reviews.
  • 06
The General Manager complains a bit... then says "you know, you should really consider if you really want to work here or not. I won't have an employee calling me out and disobeying me"
  • 07
At this point I was peeved. I've done nothing but good work. I've put up with all his for years, I've let his choices slide before (ex: false advertising, telling us to serve old nasty food to reduce waste, etc...)
  • 08
Cue malicious compliance: So 2 days later I put in my 2 weeks. And this is where it got fun. I had my manager buddy get a list of employees and their wages. Not my proudest moment, but I went around and told some people who were underpaid about people who were ridiculously
  • 09
overpaid (a couple of them being because of nepotism, their mom was a manager, who also was severely overpaid) My last day came and went and the fallout began...
  • 10
Additional backstory, the supervisor had told the General Manager to hire 20 new people by the end of the month, only 5 ended up getting hired, and then I quit....
  • 11
Within 2 weeks he had 6 of his 8 managers walk out, 5 of his only reliable crew walk out, satisfaction reviews plummeted, drive through times increased from 2.5 minutes to 5 minutes, profits fell from 10k a day to 4k a day. And all it took was 3 weeks and this fool got himself
  • 12
demoted. Me leaving wasn't the sole reason people quit, it was just the start. But all he had to do was be honest, decent, and not be an ungrateful Even his own cousin quit. Probably my favorite 'karma is a moment' to date.

Hadespuppy Any job that tries to keep you from sharing wage information with fellow employees is hiding something. Either they're underpaying some folks, or they're overpaying others, or both.
  • 14
JJisTheDarkOne. I've been in two different jobs where they specifically told me "We don't want you to discuss your wage with anyone else". Everyone ended up knowing every one else's wages anyhows. Was not pretty.

themcp I had an employer where I was doing the data processing to produce the reports to their clients on the basis of which they got 100% of their income. I had asked them to let me train someone else to do it, and they said no, somebody else was already doing it - it seems he was claiming

credit for all my work on that, but didn't actually know how to do it. So they let me go, and I never trained anyone. Within 3 months the company went from 150 employees to 2. At another place I was managing all the software development to support the ridiculous BS the sales team kept selling to

the clients no matter how many times I screamed not to. Manglement refused to recognize that the company utterly relied on my team to produce software on a regular basis to meet their client obligations for their income, and they drove me out the door. About a month after I left the president of the company (my boss)

Ninjaraui666 I never understood the not getting to discuss pay. I work as a teacher and it is so nice being able to look up any counties pay scale in my state. Just give them my experience and degree and I know what we get paid. I don't know why every company doesn't do something similar.
